Carriage numeration

Numeration system allows to unite in an eight-digit number a unique inventory number of the rolling stock unit, its main characteristic, and coded protection of authenticity of number reading.

The first symbol refers to the type of rolling stock:

  • 2  covered freights;
  • 4  platforms;
  • 5 own wagons;
  • 6 open wagons;
  • 7 tank wagons;
  • 8  isothermal wagons;
  • 3 and 9  other wagons (specialized, etc.).

The second symbol refers to the number of axes and main characteristics of the wagon: numbers 0-8 define four-axle, 9 – eight-axle wagons. All six-axle wagons and transporters are classified as other wagons and their numbers begin with 3 (the second number with six-axle wagons is 6, with transporters - 9). Apart from the number of axes, the second number defines:

  • for covered wagons – body space;
  • for platforms – frame length;
  • for 4-axle open wagons – presence of drop-bottoms and end doors;
  • for tank containers - specialization.

The third symbol is the wagon’s additional characteristic.

The fourth, fifth, and sixth symbols in the wagon’s number define its ordinal number and contain no characteristics.

Number 9 in the seventh symbol testifies to the presence of an adaptor platform.

The eighth symbol is a control one.
