Riga port increased cargo turnover by 11% in 11 months
Riga port in January-November 2011 increased cargo turnover by 11.3% over the corresponding period of 2010 - up to 30.96 million tons, according to the materials of the port.
Bulk cargoes accounted for the largest share of the Riga port’s cargo turnover in the reporting period - 18 million tons (12.9% to the level of 2010), including coal - 12.05 million tons (12.8%), chemical cargos - 1.55 million tons (24.9%), wood chips - 926.8 thousand tons (-15.6%), construction materials - 569.3 thousand tons (54.1%), grain - 469.2 thousand tons (38%).
In January-November 2011, the port handled 6.95 million tons of fluid cargo (+0.9%), including various oil products - 6.9 million tons (17.7%), liquefied natural gas - 48.3 thousand tons (23.5%).
During the period 6 million tons of general cargo were handled (+0.9%). While there was 2.89 million tons (18.9%) of cargo in the containers, 279.2 thousand TEU (+20,1%), 513.2 thousand tons of Ro-Ro cargo (-21%).
Following 11 months coal cargoes make up 38.9% of the total volume of transshipped cargo in the port, oil products - 22.3%, wood products -11.7%, container 8.9%, chemicals 5%.
Last month there was handled 2.82 million tons of cargo in Riga port, including bulk - 1.68 million tons, general cargos - 537.5 thousand tons, fluid cargos - 595.7 thousand tons.
According to the forecasts of the port authority, this year cargo turnover will be 34 million tons, which is 12% more than in 2010.
