Ukraine will eliminate customs clearance of transit containers

11 2011

The Ukrainian government considers it expedient to remove the container transit from customs procedures.

It was declared by the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, head of Mininfrastruktury Borys Kolesnikov. "Currently the option of canceling customs inspection for transit containers is being considered - said the official during his visit to the port of Odessa. - In addition, it is planned that the time of inspection of containers will be reduced to 30 minutes".

Now, according to the standards adopted for the State Customs Service of Ukraine, the standard time for registration of containers is defined in 2 hours.

As the head of Mininfrastruktury said, initiatives are aimed at attracting the transit of container to the ports (including rail and ferry services through the port of Illichivsk).

According to the Ukrainian port workers, customs inspection today covers 100% of import containers and 65-70% of transit.
